It has been over 15 years since two stoned college students realized that watching MGM's Wizard of Oz while listening to Pink Floyds Dark Side of the Moon revealed hidden connections and meanings that Pink Floyd possibly didn't even intend. The world was changed forever. And now Austin's very own Eliza Wren invites you to make a new discovery. In 1935, Disney released a brilliant, visually inventive, experimental sequel to MGM's classic Technicolor musical. Return to Oz starred Fairuza Balk as a post-Oz Dorothy who is locked in a mental hospital after telling Auntie Em and the rest of her bland Kansas kin about her adventures on the yellow brick road. She soon finds herself back in Oz, only to learn that war has all but destroyed it. Dorothy meets up with her old pals and makes new allies such as a sass-talking chicken, a wind-up soldier named Tic-Toe, and a pile of
furniture that comes to life with a sprinkle of magic powder. Dorothy will need all the help she
can get on her quest to rescue Oz from the reign of an evil princess with interchangeable heads, and her minions, the Wheelers. Revisit this overlooked masterpiece with the original music of Eliza Wren, Austin's beloved rock band that battles against the forces of evil with a mandolin, a banjo, electric sitar, slide guitar, drums, bass and dreamy vocals as their weapons of choice. They will do a live performance of over 30 songs they composed to hauntingly complement the spectacular visual adventure that is Return to Oz. Joining them are three decapitated heads who escaped from the evil Princess Mombis fortress to sing backup. Synchronicity never sounded so good!
